Karyn wholeheartedly believes that each and every child has the ability to achieve academic success and contribute to society. She feels as if it is her responsibility to guide children to their potential by providing opportunities for active, equitable learning. As an educator, Karyn accepts that it is her duty to model how to engage students in high-quality text that encourages critical thinking. By engaging in consistent, complex active learning opportunities, all children can become critical thinkers and achievers.

Teaching vs Tutoring

According to the CRLA (College Reading and Learning Association): “Tutoring is responding to questions about lessons already taught”.
And there it is. Its one thing to know the subject material well, but a teacher knows how to explain the most esoteric concepts in their field twelve different ways, until a student truly “gets it.”
A teacher-
-Understands how students think and learn
- Engages a student and conveys real passion and interest for the material
-Is able to teach concepts and skills more efficiently (less time)
-Is able to teach in a manner that allows students to retain and recall information longer
-Knows where a student is going to make the majority of their mistakes before they make them
-Builds confidence, especially when a student is at his or her most vulnerable. (Teaching vs. Tutoring, Berman, Solomon)
At Baines Educational Support and Solutions, we teach!
One on one teaching is available.

Approaches to Learning

We create a learning environment where the client feels safe and is willing to take instructional risks in order to change his or her own practice. As a result, the client is now able to learn and implement new skills and instructional strategies. This is how student growth is achieved.

ONE ON ONE TEACHING BENEFITS-

The BESS individualized approach offers a wide range of benefits to students, including:
-
Dedicated attention of a highly qualified, credentialed teacher who can focus on individual student help, addressing the specific needs of each student and helping them to adjust the pacing of their education to an appropriate level.
-
Strengths and weaknesses can be addressed more consistently and fully without the competition of other students for the teacher’s time.
-
Students are more directly engaged in their own education and develop a sense of responsibility and enthusiasm for their own successes and academic achievement.
-
Without the time constraints of a traditional classroom setting, students can move at their own pace and not feel pressured by the progress of other students.
-
Students are able to fit their learning time around their schedule, and learn anytime, anywhere regardless of work demands, family obligations, mobility constraints, or any other circumstances that would otherwise limit their educational opportunities and potential.
